How the Food Industry Affects Your Health

tang-food inc movieWhile I am definitely not an animal rights activist I do care how my food is grown, how the animals are treated and what nutrients it has when it reaches my table. Growing up in the 50’s I witnessed the dramatic change in our family’s food. Our food changed from making  whole food fresh from scratch daily to mom bringing home what is called now by some Franken foods or food like substances.

Most people growing up remember when these foods started coming home in mom’s grocery sack.  We actually thought it was so cool to make a glass of orange juice from Tang. For those of you who don’t know about Tang it was suppose to be orange juice. But of course there was not a drop of  real oj in the whole container but it had a lot of citric acid.  It did have 10% Vitamin C and a couple of synthetic vitamins.

I have heard you could even use Tang  in the dishwasher because of the citric acid content. As an aside I am wondering if this is where Shaklee got the idea to make their automatic biodegradable Dish Wash Automatic Concentrate. I actually love Shaklee automatic Dishwashing cleaner. It does a great job and doesn’t leave an scent on the dishes when they are clean. I really hate those dishwashing soaps that leave a scent on the dishes. And by the way you use  a lot less than the store brands  so it actually cost less.

Anyway with all this said I wanted to ask if any of you have viewed the movie Food Inc yet?  It is a must see documentary by Robert Kenner that talks about the food industry and what is really going on. Did you ever wonder why there is such an obesity problem in the US?

Our current food system has made Americans fatter and sicker than at any time in history, it’s driven more and more farmers out of business. The massive overproduction of cheap unhealthy food is not working for consumers,

Anyway I have the trailer of the video below and also a link to an interview on ABC News  that discusses  both sides of the argument Click here to view the ABC  interview

And make sure you comment in the comment section at the end of the post and let me know what you think.
